A Day In My Life
Normally during the summers, I’ll take classes online. This year is a little different…
I am working at an internship for software engineering in the MSP area. They are taking great care of me by providing a fully furnished apartment in a very nice area of St Paul. I am only a 10-minute drive from the office each day, and if I am not feeling like going in or slightly under the weather, I am allowed to work remotely!
So let's go through what a normal day looks like for me.
The morning sun always comes in through my window, so I almost don’t need to ever set an alarm! (I say almost because sometimes I am just a tad too tired to get out of bed when the sun is coming up).
I am up and moving by 6:45 each morning, and the first thing I do is grab some breakfast. I am very bland when it comes to most of my meals but don’t hate on my Honey Nut Cheerios! I think I have been eating these for breakfast for at least the past 10 years. It's just too easy.
After breakfast, my bowl and spoon go directly into the dishwasher. Then it is time to make lunch. If I have leftovers from the night before, I will normally grab those and pack them in a lunch box. Otherwise, I make a very plain ham and cheese sandwich. And I’ll add a few snacks in there too, as well as either a Sprite or a Gatorade depending on how I am feeling that day.
Next is clothing. I don’t have to get too dressed up for work in full business attire that often, as many engineers will wear jeans with a nicer top and tennis shoes. I will grab either my dark wash jeans or my black denim, my nicer tennis shoes, and a dressy top. I find that sometimes I am a little more overdressed on the top half than most of the other employees. Having supportive shoes is now a must for me while at work.
Now I brush my teeth, put on a light amount of make-up (probably just mascara), deodorant,... you know the drill. All that is left is to grab my badge, keys, wallet, and my backpack with my computer, charger, and headset inside. And out the door we go!
The drive up is super easy, I just need to be assertive when merging onto the highway so I can get 2 lanes over pretty quickly.
Now it is probably about 8 am when I get to the office and am clocking in at my desk. Throughout the day, I will work on some training that I haven’t finished yet, I might attend a few meetings, and I'll work on writing some tests for verification, I'll work until about 4 pm, and then it is time to head home for the day. I’ll clock out, charge my hours, power down my laptop, pack up, and head home!
Once I am home, I will immediately change into comfy clothes, make a snack, or just dinner if I am hungry enough. In the evenings, I’ll spend some time working on blog posts, either website content or working on Instagram content.
One of the new projects I am starting on for my blog is printables! I’ve been working with my partner, who just graduated college with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, and these printables are going to look so much better being put together using high-quality software rather than something just basic like Canva. Canva is very easy to use, but I want to create something that is high quality and appealing to all my readers too.
Lately, I have also been playing some video games in the evening with my friends. It has made me think about possibly building a PC this summer, as I would love to be able to play more Windows games rather than just what is supported by my MacBook and its MacOS.
My youngest sister has been joining my friends and me for Minecraft lately, and it is pure comedy and one of the best ways to end the day. She ventured off on her own pretty early on, but she always has some good stories or jokes for us.
At the end of the night, close to 11 pm, I am going to fully get ready for bed. I have my whole hygiene routine where I take the makeup off, brush my teeth, wash my face, etc., and then also I will maybe read a little bit or look at Pinterest or youtube for some blogging inspiration or just to learn more about what I need to do to be a successful blogger.
Lights out at 11:30 pm, and we rinse and repeat the next day. Thanks for joining me for the day!
